“Noted for her clever lyrics and staggering vocal arrangements, veteran songwriter and producer

Lisa Dietrich prioritizes quality - influenced by a vast array of classic Pop, Soul and Jazz. SET IT OFF TONIGHT

“Set It Off Tonight,” a track that captures the sound of the kind of music that bands like Earth, Wind & Fire and Rufus or solo performers like Stevie or Michael would have done back in the day. Dietrich uses “Set It Off Tonight” to take us back to a great era of music."

the inspiration

"Set It Off Tonight" was inspired by a trip to New York City several years ago one evening at my friend D. Prosper, and Natasha Diggs's iconic Friday night spot, “Soul in the Horn”- where the DJs’ music focus includes a fabulous array of Classic Soul and Disco. The vibe in the club was euphoric! The stellar arrangements, level of musicianship, and overall production of the songs from this era that I grew up with..phenomenal! That night I decided I needed to capture something like this for my project. ‘Set It Off Tonight’ is an uplifting song I felt was so needed in these crazy times! A song to get you going on the dance floor or for lacing up your skates and taking it to the streets!”

“I woke up one morning and the lyrics and melody came to me all at once, including the signature horn part in the hook! I knew I needed 'Quincy Jones - level production’ I then met up with music mastermind Wayne Linsey at his studio and explained my vision. I had just seen one of his shows, and knew he could take the song where it needed to go! I wanted all live instrumentation including a live string section. I started singing what I had written a cappella, and right away he got on his keyboard and we were on our way! Between the two of us, we brought in the perfect mix of  “A list” musician magic!"

SUGAR

Lisa Dietrich departs from her soul/jazz leanings on the nostalgically fun “Sugar.” Dietrich’s impressive vocal range is showcased with an entertaining delivery, including percussive accents surrounded by a big band sound. The colorful video animation playfully reflects the recording’s burlesque style. “Sugar” is a tasty treat.

Growing up, our home was filled with a vast array of music, which included The Andrews Sisters! I was obsessed! I am a harmony fanatic and would listen to them for hours! “Three Little Fishes" was one of my favorite songs of theirs! So, I would say my inspiration for this song, would be a combination of The Andrews Sisters, the wonderfully fantastic Henry Mancini mixed with a bit of Mae West!

HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Lisa Dietrich continues with her “Set It Off Tonight” Jetsons-like artwork and smooth soul sound on her first holiday single, “Home for the Holidays.” She promises to be home to the imagery of the season including “Charlie Brown and Snoopy on TV.” Earth, Wind & Fire-style brass offsets her mid-range vocals which build up the scale with classy excitement as this new holiday standard concludes.

"I LOVE holiday season, and always wanted to write a "classic" type of holiday song! Fortunately, like many of my other songs, it hit me over the head one day, all at once like a ton of bricks! I wrote the full lyric and melody in minutes! Fortunately, just prior to that, I was blessed to have met the wonderfully talented music wizard, Magic Mendez, the Whisper's music director and producer. I sang the whole song down on a click track, top to bottom, sent it to him, and he sent me the most wonderfully fabulous and whimsical music arrangement full of holiday magic! From there, some additional musicians came in to the mix, I re-cut my vocals to the new track and we finished just in time for the holidays!"

MOVE ME NO MOUNTAIN

A few years ago I heard “Move Me No Mountain” for the very first time. It was the original version of the song, recorded by Love Unlimited and produced by the magical genius, Barry White. It just took my breath away! From the background vocal arrangement to the sonics of the production as a whole, and the brilliant message of the song, I immediately knew I needed to record a version! It’s all about that ’60s and ‘70s soul! I paired up again with Tracy Carter, my collaborator from my version of La Costa, and along with Tracy, brought in the musician mastery!

There is a bit of magic involved in the song! I thought it would terrific to have Chuckii Booker on bass. Of course, he is a musical wizard, but also, being Barry White’s godson, I thought that would be incredibly special! Well, when I asked him to play on the song, he shared with me that he was actually at the original recording session of this song with Barry and Love Unlimited when he was just a kid! I was so blessed to have a phenomenal group of players on my version of the song, including a national treasure, the great Hubert Laws! It was important to me to stay within the “bones” of the original recording, while thoroughly enjoying my spin on it!

LA COSTA

“The whole feel is probably the best retro feel I've heard. This production pulls all the best of it right out. All the harmony is so right where it's supposed to be, and that deceptive final Bbmi9 vocal slide at the end, #brilliant”

"One day, I happened to hear Natalie Cole’s “La Costa” for the first time and fell in LOVE with it. To me, it was reminiscent of Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66, which is one of mine and my father's all time favorite bands. I then asked my dear friend and producer, Tracy Carter if he would help me record a remake of it as a gift for my dad for Father’s Day. I soon sent the song out to several music peers just for fun, and got such an incredibly overwhelming response from them all telling me that i should release it as a single! Being an artist was not my plan, but once I ended up releasing the song along with the lyric video, the next thing i knew, i was receiving a multitude of wonderful reviews, and ended up in the #3 position on a uk chart where one of my "she-roes" Chaka Khan was #1!
